Hanukkah Gift and Decorative Tees
A common complaint among those who celebrate Hanukkah is that there is a distinct lack of decorations in the stores- often all they can expect is an unkempt corner of dreidles and blue and silver holiday garland.
Custom t-shirts from ooshirts are exactly what you need to spice up your Hanukkah celebration with some flair.
History
In the 160s BCE, The Seleucid Empire was ruling over the Hebrews in modern-day Israel. The Seleucid king outlawed Judaism and tried to force them to recognize Zeus as the all-powerful god. A Jewish priest named Matityahu, along with his five sons, led a revolt against the Seleucids. Matityahu died and his son Judah took over as leader. The revolt was successful, and by 165 BCE the Seleucids had been expelled from Jerusalem. The festival of Hanukkah was proclaimed to celebrate this victory. There are two explanations as to why Hanukkah is eight days long. One is that the people celebrated for eight days to make up for the fact that they were not able to celebrate Sukkot, an eight day long harvest festival, a few months earlier because of the war with the Seleucids. The other, more famous tale is that the menorah in the Temple in Jerusalem had to be burning 24/7, but there was only enough oil to light it for one of the eight days needed to procure a real supply of oil. Miraculously, the oil burned for all eight days, and the menorah was able to stay lit.
